How to Save Money while Eating: Stop Eating Fast Food
Before I became a successful self-employed author and blogger, I would always notice that the majority of my fellow co-workers at my previous workplace office would constantly walk into work with either a doughnut and cup of coffee or a bagel and cup of coffee, that they would purchase at a local fast food establishment.
Then during lunch, those same people would go out to either those same fast food restaurants or another fast food restaurant and bring back this huge lunch, consisting of something along the lines of a burger, fries, and a soda. I would then strike up a conversation with them and ask what they eat for dinner after work. The main response I would get would be something along the lines of, “Oh I’ll just pick something up on the way home.” If you add those three fast food meals up for that day, and figure how much it would cost over the course of one work week, it could come out to a pretty hefty amount of money. Some people eat out so often they need a second job just to pay for all of their fast food meals.
For me, in the mornings I would get up early enough to have a cup of coffee with a bowl of chopped fruit and bowl of cereal, oatmeal, or toast with blueberry jam. My lunch usually consisted of a healthy sandwich and multigrain fruit muffin and bottled water. For dinner, if I didn’t already have dinner pre-made from the following day, I would cook something simple and healthy such as whole grain spaghetti or lean meatloaf. By consuming food items that came from an actual grocery store instead of a run-of-the-mill fast food place, I would be saving quite a bit of money, money that I could be using for something more practical and healthy.
