How-To Save Money in Your Home: Use Sun Screens and Aluminum Foil on Windows

Use sun screens and aluminum foil on windows to reflect heat from the sun and block out sunlight. Depending on where you live and which direction your house and its windows are situated will cause some rooms in the house to heat up more often than other rooms in the house. So what I did was installed high quality sun screens on the outside of all the windows of the house and garage.

Once the sun screens were installed, I measured and then taped aluminum foil, with the shiny side facing the outside to the windows on the inside of the house. This made a tremendous difference in the temperature in the home. But check with your home owners association if your neighborhood is unfortunate enough to have one, for compliance with the homeowner associations’’ rules and possibly the neighbors next to you so that the foil does not reflect the sun’s rays into their own home’s windows.

By installing high quality sun screens on the outside of your home windows and taping aluminum foil on the inside of your home windows with the shiny side facing out, then you may just save yourself a pretty penny on your monthly electric bill since you will be running your air-conditioning unit and electric fans less often to cool the inside of your home.
