I have always been a fan of Microsoft’s video game entertainment consoles since the original Xbox which was released on November 15th, 2001. The latest iteration of the famous Xbox is no exception. Technology has come a long way in the past decade recently. We have seen the rise and fall of various electronic companies. There are rumors of business merger’s and take overs. Today’s world is a high paced world that thrives in electronic social connectivity. The Microsoft Xbox One makes a gradual transition from being a sole video game console to a full fledged living room entertainment system. When I do purchase video game consoles, I always purchase batches of the first initial release just to have some on hand. Before I actually use any of the video game consoles though, I always use the video game consoles I purchase a year or two after the initial release. Simply so the manufacturers can work out all the little kinks and bugs that usually glitch the initial first day video game systems.
The Microsoft Xbox One review unit that I have included Halo The Master Chief Collection as a full video game download. The box the Microsoft Xbox One came in was a beautifully grafted green box with wonderfully designed graphics of the Xbox One. The Microsoft Xbox One replaces the still fully capable Microsoft Xbox 360, which is still receiving new video game releases on it. The Microsoft Xbox One video game console itself no longer features actual push buttons on the system, but rather, similarly to the late Microsoft Xbox 360 video game consoles, has touch sensitive buttons, where all you have to do is cover the particular button such as the eject or power button to get the button to perform its job function.
The Microsoft Xbox One, besides coming with the video game console itself, also included in the box were one wireless controller, a chat headset for communicating via voice chat while connected to Xbox Live, a high speed HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) cable for quick data transfer, a wireless networking capability with built in wireless network hardware, and a 500 gigabyte (GB) hard drive. I was kind of let down knowing that the Microsoft Xbox One only came with a 500 gigabyte hard drive, since it is not uncommon to find many home computers that have multiple terabyte hard drives. Maybe Microsoft can catch up in terms of available hard drive space for its video game consoles. A Dolby Digital surround sound functionality with the DTS (Digital Theater Systems) HD (High Definition) Master Audio 7.1 allows for crisp sound and music. Xbox OS (Operating System), the standard operating system found on the Microsoft Xbox One video game console has that Windows 8.0 / 8.1 vibe to it. Those users who are familiar navigating Windows 8.0 or Windows 8.1 will feel right at home navigating through the many menu’s and applications that come standard on the Microsoft Xbox One. The initial set up was a breeze. Simply connecting the Microsoft Xbox One video game console to the proper cabling and then to my television, I was able to quickly set up my Microsoft Xbox One along with the wired and wireless networking options that were available.
The applications that both came standard on the Microsoft Xbox One Review and were available as either a free download or for purchase, downloaded and installed at an average speed for my high speed internet. The applications (apps) should of taken much quicker to download and install, but that is minor compared to the abundance of usage the video game console will be getting in the future. The ability now a days for users of video game consoles now have the ability to purchase video games electronically and hold them in the users’ account which enable the user to download and install the video game on any of the video game consoles it was design for without having to get up out of the chair or sofa coach and actually swap disks. A few note worthy applications to consider are the YouTube, Netflix, and Internet Explorer applications. I would occasionally find myself surfing the web via my Microsoft Xbox One in my living room, rather than getting up and walking into my office on my laptop computer to surf the internet. For the future I hope Microsoft will slim down its video game consoles. Microsoft also needs to begin reducing the size of the power supply and bundling it inside the console itself. I tested out both the wireless controller that came with the Microsoft Xbox One along with another wired controller I purchased separately. Both controllers functioned flawlessly. I sometimes here, people prefer one video game console over the other. What those people have to keep in mind is, that most of the video game consoles now a days are pretty much similar in terms of functionality and usage. Video game consoles are no longer solely video game consoles but are now full fledged living room electronic entertainment systems.
The wireless controllers battery packs did not last for as long as I would expect, considering we are already fifteen years into the new millennium. I would rather have a wireless controller that had a longer lasting battery pack, rather than a wired controller that simply had a longer cable extension reach. The wireless batteries should also have the ability to charge themselves wirelessly similarly to some smartphones that are already out on the market. The wireless controller should simply have a button that we press that turns the power off on the controller, disconnecting it from any network, and then connects it to the charging base wirelessly and charges the battery pack that is still in place the controller which is on the opposite side of the living room. One thing that would launch Microsoft and its product to the front of the video game manufacturing line is to offer a video game console handheld. Maybe this handheld can be a sort of mobile Xbox, I can only hope Microsoft will continue to listen to their fans for future development of both the Xbox and future electronic products. Additional controller options such as a wider selection of sizes and colors both for the controller and the console itself would be another worthwhile investment on Microsofts part.
