It seems like it was just yesterday when people were bragging about their new flip phone with a state of the art screensaver feature or their new Blackberry that they spent their entire paycheck on. And just when we thought the millennial tech craze was over along came the tablet PC market. Now that we are well into the 21st century, virtually every home has at least one tablet PC. And now that techies are starting to drop their desktop computer entirely for a tablet PC, we are witnessing a trend into total mobile computing usability; however, not all tablet PC’s are created equal. I’m speaking about the Amazon Kindle fleet to be exact. The Kindle lineup is a Godsend when it comes down to usability and advanced features. With some models and configurations even rivaling its arch nemesis, the Apple iPad.
Even well into the 21st century, it is kind of difficult to bring a desktop computer into bed with you. Even a laptop, netbook, or two-in-one computer is much to bulky to browse comfortably in bed with. This is where a tablet PC comes in handy. More specifically the Kindle Fire HD 10. The all new Kindle Fire HD 10 is the newest iteration in Amazon’s Kindle fleet and comes standard with a host of features including two built in webcams, built in microphone, 10.1″ 1080p HD display, and either a 32 gb or 64 gb hard drive.
If you already own a desktop PC and are on the fence about purchasing either a laptop or a tablet PC, then here are seven reasons why a Kindle Fire HD 10 is more practical than a laptop;
- Less bulky than a typical laptop computer.
- Gone are the days of having to lug around a bulky laptop. You no longer have to spend a fortune on thin light weight laptops. Nor do you have to worry about how thin your laptop is or how thin your next laptop will be, as Amazon’s kindles are pretty darn thin and light weight themselves. With the advent of tablet PC’s, we no longer have to bring a ruler into the store with us and measure the thickness of laptops. Plus that is just weird…now a days. Who still does that?
- Built in peripherals.
- Since the Kindle Fire HD 10 comes with all of its peripherals built into the device itself, you no longer have to deal with messy cables to attach external hardware or forced to configure your local area network to connect wireless peripherals. Everything is built into the device, including two built in webcams and a built in microphone. Even its hard drive is built into the device. And if its massive 32 gb or 64 gb hard drives don’t provide enough room for your photos, music, and other data, then you can easily save things to your Amazon Cloud Drive app account powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS) without having to worry about dealing with any external storage devices. You can say goodbye to having to spend money on external aftermarket peripherals and finding room on your work desk to store the peripherals. Now that we are well into the 21st century, all electronic peripherals can and should be built into the device. Whether that be tablet PC’s, desktop computers, or laptops. This isn’t the 1980’s anymore when we had to dedicate an entire section of a room to a single computer. There is absolutely no excuse from any mobile computer manufacturer not to include built in peripherals in their mobile computers. Or any computers for that matter. The less clutter the better.
- Made by Amazon.
- By owning a Kindle Fire HD 10, not only do you possess a well engineered mobile device, but you get to own a technological marvel that comes attached with the world renowned Amazon brand name.
- Comes standard with a massive 10.1″ 1080p HD display.
- You’d be hard pressed to find a laptop or another tablet PC that is as affordable as an Amazon kindle and also includes a beautiful display that is both brilliant to look at and a feast for the eyes. Even a netbook doesn’t even compare to the functionality of a kindle. With a netbook you still have to flip up the monitor like you would with its bigger cousins; however, with a kindle the screen is built onto the outside of the device. All you have to do is power on the kindle and you are good to go.
- The ability to own something modern.
- A decade ago I could walk into of a coffee shop and see multiple college students, business professionals, and stock market investors with their laptops surfing the web, trading stocks on the stock market, paying bills online, and playing the latest PC game. Now when I walk into of a coffee shop, I’d be shocked if I didn’t see half of the people in there using some sort of mobile computer such as a tablet PC, mobile phone, or smart watch doing the exact same things as the people before them used to do with a laptop computer.
- Competitive Prices.
- Walmart may have a monopoly in the offline retail world; however, Amazon completely dominates the online retail world. Due to Amazon’s shear size and massive online presence, they are able to set competitive prices on items that you would typically find in a retail store. If you’re like me, then you like to enjoy the comfort of shopping in your own home and are always browsing Amazon for the latest deals on the newest tech products. It wouldn’t surprise me to find kindle deals near or even below the prices of similarly spec’d out laptops. Why would someone want to buy a laptop from a company they’ve never heard of when they can simply purchase a state of the art tablet PC for the same price from the largest online retailer? Sometimes the prices work in the shopper’s favor and sometimes they don’t; however, I’d much rather spend a little bit more money on a product from a company with a proven track record rather than getting a “deal” on the same product from a foreign web store that I’ve never heard of.
- Micro SD Slot.
- If the already massive hard drive models available along with the unlimited potential of the Amazon Cloud Drive app still aren’t enough for you, then look no further than the Kindle’s micro SD slot. The Kindle Fire HD 10 comes standard with a neat little storage feature known as a micro SD slot. The micro SD slot and its internal card reader supports micro SD cards and allows for up to 256 gb of extra storage. If you purchase the 64 gb Kindle Fire HD 10 model for instance and a 256 gb micro SD card you get a total of 320 gb of data storage, not including the option to utilize Amazon’s unlimited Amazon Cloud Drive app. That is a massive amount of storage for a mobile computer that rivals the storage capacities of its larger cousins minus the initial hefty purchase price.
There are many tablet PC’s to choose from including the kindle, iPad, and various all-in-one computers. The kindle itself may not have been the first tablet PC to hit the market; however, it sure won’t be the last. Even though tablet PC’s have been available to the consumer for well over a decade, the era of mobile computing seems to have just begun.
If you don’t already own a tablet PC such as the Kindle Fire HD 10 and are still using a desktop or laptop for your computing needs, now is the time to get your feet wet in mobile computing. Once you do make that initial purchase; however, don’t get to comfortable with that nifty new tech device as even though tablet PC’s are great, Alternate Reality is fast approaching.
