So the day has arrived, you’ve saved your hard earned cash to use to spend on your first major computer purchase and you ask yourself, “What type of computer should I buy?” When purchasing a computer, they come in two main configurations, a laptop, also known as a notebook computer are usually slim “all in one” computer systems with an attached and foldable computer monitor. The other main type of computer is known as a desktop computer system. Desktop computers are usually much more powerful in terms of CPU (Central Processing Unit), graphics card, and hard disk drive storage capability. If you plan on purchasing a computer and you are on the go and travel a lot out of the house, then having a mobile type of computer system such as a mobile laptop, notebook, netbook, or tablet computer system may be the better option. By choosing a mobile computer system such as a laptop, notebook, netbook, or tablet computer system you will usually end up sacrificing a quicker central processing unit (CPU) for a slower central processing unit (CPU). A mobile computer system such as a laptop, notebook, netbook, or tablet personal computer (Pc) will be extremely portable and easily functional on extended trips away from home or the office. Some mobile computer systems such as a laptop, notebook, netbook, or tablet personal computer (Pc) rival lower end desktop computers. Desktop computer systems will usually have two, three, or four or more times the storage capacity in their hard drive (HDD) (Hard Disk Drive) than a typical mobile computer system such as a laptop, notebook, netbook, or tablet personal computer (Pc). For those individuals who enjoy building their own computer, then choosing a desktop build may be more sufficient and easier to build for the more space to work with inside the computer tower that houses the main computer system.

By building your own computer in a desktop configuration, you will have more freedom to easily choose a wider array of hardware options such as more varied graphics cards, network cable ports, and larger and quicker RAM (Random Access Memory) options to choose from. Desktop computers though do take up a lot of room. Plan on dedicating a space on your desk and on the floor near your desk for all the computer desktop peripherals such as the monitor, tower, keyboard, mouse, speakers, sub woofer, and cables that connect them all. Some desktop computer systems do have the option to wirelessly connect to all the computer desktop peripherals such as the monitor, tower, keyboard, mouse, speakers, and sub woofer via wireless network cards and adapters. Most desktop computer manufactures will include a basic 56k modem or a high speed internet port to connect to either a router or cable modem. If you do use a 56k modem, you may consider upgrading to a wireless setup or high speed network connection set up for quicker internet browsing. A mobile computer system such as a laptop, notebook, netbook, or tablet personal computer (Pc) will usually be cheaper if you go with one of the low end brands that only has a single or dual core central processor. Most quad core and higher computer systems will usually run you a much higher price than compared to a single or dual core central processing chip. You could also purchase a cheaper desktop computer system a modify the hardware that you wish to upgrade. The major upgrades could usually include things like an increase in internal memory, a larger hard drive, or even an actual CPU chip swap. I almost always go with full fledged desktop super computers and usually end up purchasing the most expensive one out their and even modifying it more and upgrading the internal hardware even more to rival “actual” super computers.

By purchasing the most expensive computer system that you can afford, you will end up having to purchase and upgrade your computer systems far less often than you would if you simply got a “run of the mill” cheaper computer system. Never let one of those in-store sales men to pressure you into purchasing a computer that “is right for you.” I usually tell in-store sales people to have a nice day right when I walk into the store. The last thing I want to do is to be pestered by some new employee who wants to “make a quick commission” off of my sale or try and talk to me like they know what they are talking about. Never have someone tell you “which computer is “best for you.”” Instead, of getting a computer system that is “right for your normal computer usage,” you should look into getting a computer system that is the most expensive, fastest, has the most storage space in the hard drive, and has the most internal memory. If a sales person is telling you to purchase a computer that only has eight gigabytes of internal memory versus another computer system right next to it that has sixteen gigabytes of internal memory, get the computer that has the sixteen gigabytes of internal memory. The higher the gigabytes for the computers internal memory, the quicker the computer responds to your keyboard input commands and runs computer applications more fluid. Also if a sales person tries to “up sell” a computer to you that has a dual core processor versus another computer that has a quad core processor, get the computer that has the quad core processor, since the computer system that has the quad core processor will have to work less and possibly be quicker, and run more quieter and cooler. If a sales person tries to get you to buy a computer that has five hundred gigabytes of hard drive storage space versus another computer right next to it that has one terabyte of storage, purchase the computer system that has the one terabyte of storage. In today’s technological world, a sing terabyte is equal to one thousand gigabytes. So a computer that has a hard drive storage space of one terabyte has twice the storage capability than a computer system that only has five hundred gigabytes of hard drive storage.

Some of the top features to look for when purchasing a new computer are the following…

– Higher internal memory, now in the gigabyte range i.e. (one gigabyte is one thousand times better than one megabyte)
– Higher hard drive storage space i.e. (one terabyte is one thousand times better than one gigabyte)
– A processor that has more “cores” i.e. (a quad core processor is two times more better than a dual core)
– 4k monitors have crisper and clearer images than a monitor that has a screen resolution of 1080p
– Desktops can be more powerful but can run up in costs quicker
– Notebooks and Laptops are usually pretty high in costs no matter what hardware configuration you choose
– A mobile computer system such as a laptop, notebook, netbook, or tablet personal computer (Pc) should be your “mobile” option
– Remember, sales people can get in the way and be annoying when you are trying to think quietly
– You can usually build a computer or choose a pre-built computer system on the internet and have the unit shipped to your house or office
– Building, modifying, and upgrading a desktop computer can be much easier than building, modifying, and upgrading a mobile computer system such as a laptop, notebook, netbook, or tablet personal computer (Pc)
– If you do decide to purchase a computer system in a store, do your research on the exact computer system you want so you won’t have to waste your time doing your research in the store
